God is at work in amazing ways at Covenant Chapel these days. And this past year hundreds of you have stepped up to serve in roles both inside and outside our church. Well it’s time again to consider how you can get involved in serving. Below is a list of current serving opportunities based on the needs of our church body (and don’t worry, training is provided for these positions):

OUTREACH/EVANGELISM

Mission-Minded People

  • # Volunteers Needed: As many as possible
  • Time Commitment: Regularly
  • Description: Reaching out regularly to others simply, with joy and kindness. Inviting others to church and adult education classes, church programs and functions. Participating in personal evangelism, community missions, etc. Being so excited about what God is doing in your life and in and through your church that you talk about it, promote it and invite others to join with them in it.

COVENANT COMMUNITY GROUPS

Community Group Leader

  • # Volunteers Needed: 4
  • Time commitment: Depending upon how often group meets, approximately 8 – 10 hours per month
  • Description: Responsible for overseeing a group of 8 -12 adults who meet either once or twice a month for the purposes of spiritual growth and fellowship. The leader is responsible for facilitating the discussions/study and making sure that prayer, caring and sharing life is taking place among the group members.

SUNDAY MORNING

Information Center Hosts

  • # Volunteers Needed: 4-6
  • Time Commitment: 15 minutes before and after the second service; One Sunday a month
  • Description: Information desk volunteers will provide information for visitors, keep the Covenant Chapel family informed about upcoming events, direct people to connection teams, and facilitate event sign-up.

Sunday Morning Greeters

  • # Volunteers Needed: 4 (2 for 9:30 service, 2 for 11:00 service)
  • Time Commitment: 45 minutes; one Sunday per month
  • Description: Arrive 30 minutes  prior to service and greet people entering service

Ushers – 11:00 Service

  • # Volunteers Needed: 4
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes (10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.); One Sunday per month
  • Description: Greet people entering the sanctuary, handing out bulletins, assisting people in sanctuary, counting of attendees and assisting in offering and communion direction.

Backup Ushers – 9:30 Service

  • # Volunteers Needed: 2
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes (9 -10:45 a.m.); 4-6 Sundays per year
  • Description:  Greet people entering the sanctuary, handing out bulletins, assisting people in sanctuary, counting of attendees and assisting in offering and communion direction.

KIDZ COVE

SUNDAY MORNINGS:

Administration Team

  • # Volunteers Needed: 4 (2 for 9:30 service, 2 for 11:00 service)
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes a week; once a month
  • Description: Members of the Administration Team man the Kidz Cove welcome desk on Sunday morning during either the 9:30 or 11 a.m. service. In addition to welcoming visitors, they also help with snacks and monitor attendance.

Small Group Leader – Elementary School

  • # Volunteers Needed: 8 (2 for 9:30 service; 6 for 11:00 service)
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes a week; 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off
  • Description: Lead small group of elementary school students during one the Sunday morning hours in Kidz Cove. Small group leaders do not need to prepare in advance or teach any curriculum; the main responsibility is to form a relationship with kids, lead easy games, and direct question/answer time.

Substitute Teacher

  • # Volunteers Needed: 1
  • Time Commitment: varies as needed
  • Description: An “on-call” person to fill in for leaders who are unable to make it on Sunday morning. This person is not on the regular rotation of teachers, but simply available for substitutions as needed.

Nursery – Infants (birth-18 months)

  • # Volunteers Needed: 12 (6 for 9:30 service; 6 for 11:00 service)
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes a week; 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off
  • Description: Babysit infants during one of the Sunday morning worship services.

Nursery – Toddlers (19-36 months)

  • # Volunteers Needed: 12 (6 for 9:30 service; 6 for 11:00 service)
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes a week; 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off
  • Description: Babysit toddlers during one of the Sunday morning worship services.

Preschool – age 3-4

  • # Volunteers Needed: 9 (5 for 9:30 service, 4 for 11:00 service)
  • Time Commitment: 90 minutes a week; 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off
  • Description: Lead class of preschoolers during one of the Sunday morning worship services. Lesson, craft and game is provided for you.

  • Description: Lead worship time for elementary school students during the 11:00 hour.

AWANA:

Awana Games Director

  • # Volunteers Needed: 1
  • Time Commitment: 2 hours a week, Wednesdays during the school year
  • Description: Awana leader who plans and leads Game Time for each club (Cubbies, Sparks, and T&T) throughout the evening

Awana Cubbies Leaders (Aged 2-Kindergarten)

  • # Volunteers Needed: 4
  • Time Commitment: 2 hours a week, Wednesdays during the school year
  • Description: Responsible for 3-4 cubbies (aged two years prior to Kindergarten). Will review handbooks with them and encourage their spiritual development through activities and getting to know them personally.

Awana Sparks Secretary (Aged Kindergarten-2nd Grade)

  • # Volunteers Needed: 1
  • Time Commitment: 2 hours a week, Wednesdays during the school year
  • Description: Clerical club manager responsible for the Sparks Club (aged Kindergarten through 2nd grade)

Awana T&T Leaders (Aged 3rd Grade – 5th Grade)

  • # Volunteers Needed: 5 (2 Boys Leaders, 3 Girls Leaders)
  • Time Commitment: 2 hours a week, Wednesdays during the school year
  • Description: Responsible for 4-5 clubbers (aged 3rd grade through 5th grade).  Will review handbooks with them and encourage their spiritual development through activities and getting to know them personally.

Awana T&T Boys Director (Aged 3rd Grade – 5th Grade)

  • # Volunteers Needed: 1
  • Time Commitment: 2 hours a week, Wednesdays during the school year
  • Description: Leader for the T&T Boys club (aged 3rd through 5th grade).  Oversees the running of the club including large group time (announcements, award presentations, testimonies, bible lesson, and other relevant activities), discipline, interaction with parents, and general clubber development.  Represents clubs needs to the Commander.

PRAYER

Praying for Prayer Requests

  • # Volunteers Needed: As many as are led
  • Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week
  • Description: Pray on your own daily or several times a week for the confidential prayer requests that are submitted Sunday and throughout the week. This volunteer opportunity requires you to sign a confidentiality and commitment agreement.

Pastor Prayer Partner

  • # Volunteers Needed: As many as are led
  • Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week
  • Description: Pray on your own daily or several times a week for the confidential prayer requests that are submitted by Dave and Karen every 3 weeks. This volunteer opportunity requires you to sign a confidentiality and commitment agreement.

Prayer Ministry Advisory Team

  • # Volunteers Needed: 2
  • Time commitment: Varies throughout the year depending upon events, approximately 2 hours per month
  • Description: The prayer ministry is in need of current prayer team members who will assist in the planning and implementation of prayer events which include retreats, regular and special prayer gatherings and the Week of Prayer in August.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

Table Decorators: Women’s Ministry Fall Event

  • # Volunteers Needed: 10-12
  • Time Commitment: approximately 4 hours on Friday, November 12
  • Description: The Women’s Ministry is hosting an event on Saturday, November 13, called “A Day of Thanksgiving.” Each table decorator will be responsible for decorating a table in accordance with the Thanksgiving theme and setting up the table on Friday, November 12.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

Providing Meals

  • # Volunteers Needed: Unlimited
  • Time commitment: Varies according to needs
  • Description: Serve on a rotating basis making and bringing meals to families in the congregation with newborn babies, and those dealing with serious illnesses or a death in the immediate family.

 Helping Hands

  • # Volunteers Needed: Unlimited
  • Time commitment: Varies according to needs
  • Description:  Serve with others to meet temporary needs of congregants by using your gifts and abilities. Includes but is not limited to such projects as minor house and car repairs and lawn care as well as help with budget planning and other types of consultation.

Contact Care (Hospital and Home Visitation)

  • # Volunteers Needed: Unlimited
  • Time commitment: Varies according to needs
  • Description: Serve on a rotating basis with other team members making hospital and home visits to congregants. Other opportunities involve writing notes and cards and making phone calls to those who need encouragement.

Veil of Tears (Grief Support)

  • # Volunteers Needed: Unlimited
  • Time commitment: Varies according to needs
  • Description: Come along side those in the congregation who have lost an immediate family member and support them through the first year of grief by staying in regular contact and meeting needs.

WORSHIP TEAM

Morning Directors

  • # Volunteers Needed: 2
  • Time Commitment: 5 hours a week; 1-2 weeks a month
  • Description: Arrive early on Sunday mornings to ensure media and sound systems are working properly. (Training provided.) Assist media and sound volunteers with running Sunday morning services.

Sound Technicians

  • # Volunteers Needed: 2
  • Time Commitment: 5 hours a week; 1-2 weeks a month
  • Description: Run sound for Sunday morning services. (Training provided.) Help create good sound mix to ensure good audio quality in Sanctuary.

Multimedia/Lights Technicians

  • # Volunteers Needed: 2
  • Time Commitment: 5 hours a week; 1-2 weeks a month
  • Description: Run multimedia computer and lights for Sunday morning services. (Training provided.) Work with Morning Directors to ensure smooth transitions between service elements

Drummers/Percussionists

  • # Volunteers Needed: 2
  • Time Commitment: 7 hours a week; 1-2 weeks a month
  • Description: Play drums or percussion for Sunday morning services. Attend Wednesday night rehearsals and arrive early on Sunday morning to practice with the worship team.

Check-In Volunteers – Photo Directory

  • # Volunteers Needed: 20
  • Time Commitment: approximately 4 hours
  • Description: Check-in members and attenders of Covenant Chapel as they arrive for their directory photos. Covenant Chapel is working on a photo directory to be released later this fall. Dates for this opportunity are July 19-22 and September 30-October 2.
