benevolence fund

What it is:

Donated monies given for the specific purpose of helping on a temporary basis those within our congregation (members and regular attendees) in need of financial assistance due to unemployment, serious illness or other extenuating circumstances. These monies are separate from all other Covenant Chapel offerings and are not a part of the church budget.

How funds are used:

Once the application process has been completed and approval given for funds to be distributed, depending upon the decision, the individual(s) seeking aid will submit a bill to be paid, be given grocery gift cards or other type of support. At no time will cash or checks be given directly to the applicant(s). Bills and other types of support will be paid through this fund directly to the company or organization providing a product or service to the applicant(s).

Biblical basis for the Benevolence Fund:

There are a number of scriptures that point to taking care of the downtrodden among us. Several of those scripture passages are:

I John 3:17-18: "If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."

Galatians 6:10: "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."

Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"

How to give to the Benevolence Fund:

In Person: 5th Sundays

On the 5th Sunday of a month (which occurs about 4 times per year) we will have a specific offering collection for this fund during our worship services. Look for designated yellow envelopes and drop these in the offering bags or boxes in the back of the sanctuary.
